1/48 Red Tails & Co. Limited Edition Dual ComboThe North American P-51 Mustang, produced since 1941, was one of the most versatile American fighters of World War II. It was deployed on both the Pacific and European front to oppose the Luftwaffe aircraft. It was mainly used as an escort fighter to the Boeing B-17 bomber formations, but also as a bomber fighter. It was also used in the first phase of the Korean War, although it was now overtaken by the first jet engine aircraft. In some air forces it remained in service until the early eighties. Designed by Edgar Schmued, built and flew in as little as 117 days, the P-51 was one of the largest piston fighters ever. In the latest versions the maximum limits reached by a piston engine machine. It was the product of two state-of-the-art technologies: the US aviation industry and the British motor industry.
